Terry Lusty - Director

Dr. Terry Lusty is a highly respected photojournalist, storyteller, and community leader with over 50 years of experience documenting Indigenous life and history across Canada. A residential school survivor of 8.5 years, Terry has dedicated his life to truth-telling, advocacy, and education.

He is a former high school teacher, veteran, poet, author, and co-founder of the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG). Throughout his remarkable career, Terry has worked closely with numerous Indigenous organizations and communities, using his voice and craft to amplify stories of resilience and cultural pride.

Dr. Lusty has received multiple honors for his lifelong commitment to Indigenous peoples, including an Honourary Doctorate, the Aboriginal Order of Canada, and the Alberta Premier’s Award of Excellence. As western Canada’s longest-serving Indigenous journalist, Terry continues to support Residential School Survivors, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples (MMIP), and community initiatives always guided by compassion, humility, and a deep commitment to doing good for others.
