ISET Program Funding Update
A new ISET-funded Job Readiness Program is coming to ICAA in October 2026. The program will support First Nations, Inuit, and Métis participants with employment preparation, skills development, and pathways toward employment. More information about eligibility, registration, program dates, and available supports will be shared soon.
What is ISET?
The Indigenous Skills and Employment Training (ISET) Program supports Indigenous people in developing the skills, experience, and resources they need to pursue employment and achieve their career goals.
The program was developed following engagement with Indigenous partners and organizations across Canada in 2016 and 2017. These conversations helped shape a renewed approach to Indigenous employment and training services, building on the previous Aboriginal Skills and Employment Training Strategy (ASETS).
ISET provides Indigenous organizations with greater opportunities to develop employment and training programs that respond to their communities’ needs. The program also provides increased funding and flexibility, allowing organizations to determine how best to support the people they serve.
ISET takes a distinctions-based approach, recognizing the unique needs and priorities of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples, while also supporting employment and training services for Indigenous people living in urban communities or who are not affiliated with a specific Indigenous organization or community.
Through this approach, ISET helps Indigenous communities create programs that are responsive to local priorities and provide meaningful pathways toward skills development, training, and employment.
How does this funding work?
ICAA’s current Indigenous Skills and Employment Training (ISET) funding has been designated to support the development and delivery of the Job Readiness Program. This means that the funding available to ICAA must be used toward the activities and supports that fall within the approved program allocation.
As a result, ICAA is not currently able to use this funding to provide financial assistance for post-secondary tuition, education costs, or other post-secondary expenses. While we recognize that education and training are important steps toward employment and long-term career goals, the current funding allocation does not include dedicated funding for these expenses.
We understand that this may be an important area of support for many of our members and appreciate your understanding as ICAA works within the requirements of its current funding allocation.
Further information about the Job Readiness Program, including eligibility, registration, program dates, and available supports, will be shared with members as the program details are finalized.
Should additional funding become available for post-secondary education or related expenses, ICAA will provide an update to members.
