Garry Chalifoux - Secretary
Garry Chalifoux is a member of Swan River First Nation, located on Lesser Slave Lake on Treaty 8 traditional land and territory. He currently resides in Edmonton and brings over 25 years of experience in the construction, oil and gas, and forestry industries across Northern Alberta and the territories. Since the early 1980s, Garry has been involved in major projects in the Fort McMurray oil sands and has extensive firsthand experience with the industry’s ups and downs in northern Alberta.
In 2008, Garry obtained a Band Council Resolution (BCR) to research claims, providing the Chief and Council with thorough historical research and analysis to make informed decisions about the future of Swan River First Nation. He is passionate about advocating for Indigenous rights and sharing the spirit and true meaning of Treaty 8. Garry enjoys researching and reading about Indigenous history and is committed to bringing this knowledge and perspective to his role on the Indigenous Congress of Alberta Association Board..
