Shawna Jean - President
Shawna Jean is a proud First Nations Cree woman from Northern Alberta and serves as the President of the Indigenous Congress of Alberta Association. She holds a Degree in Education with a focus on Special Education and is nearing completion of her Master’s Degree in Psychology. Shawna is a loving mother of five adult children and a proud Kookum to three grandchildren.
Shawna has also thrived in the business world, successfully managing enterprises alongside her husband in Northern Alberta, and has been recognized with awards for her community initiatives and entrepreneurial contributions. Deeply committed to Indigenous communities, she balances her professional life with volunteering, research, and service on boards and committees. As a traditional jingle and fancy dancer, she brings cultural pride to life at community events.
As President of ICAA, Shawna is passionate about creating stronger support systems for families and urban Indigenous communities while honoring the values that guide her every day. Her friendly, people-centered approach to leadership makes her a champion for cultural reconnection, community growth, and the empowerment of Indigenous peoples across Alberta.
