Lawrence Willier - Director

Lawrence Willier is a dedicated board member of the Indigenous Congress of Alberta Association. He is a member of the Sucker Creek First Nation in Northern Alberta and currently resides in the Lesser Slave Lake area. Lawrence speaks fluent Cree and is a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He has been deeply involved in Indigenous advocacy for decades. Lawrence was one of the founding members of the Native Council of Canada (Alberta) in 1985, a non-status organization, and participated in the national body NCC, now known as CAPP. That same year, he spoke in the House of Commons to help restore First Nation treaty rights under Bill C31. He has also served with the Metis Association of Alberta as President of Local 147, as a Northern board member of the Indian Association of Alberta, and as a board member of the Alberta Native Communications Society (ANCS), now Windspeaker, where he negotiated the airwaves for ANCS.

Lawrence is a lifelong learner who remains engaged at all levels of government—federal, provincial, municipal, and Indigenous. He enjoys hunting, fishing, and trapping, and continues to bring his experience, wisdom, and commitment to the Indigenous Congress of Alberta Association.
