Garry Chalifoux, Director

Garry Chalifoux is a Swan River First Nation member located on Lesser Slave Lake on Treaty 8 traditional land and territory. Garry resides in Edmonton and has been in the construction industry for over 25 years, from Edmonton to Northern Alberta and the territories. Since the early 1980s, Garry was involved in the mega projects in the oil sands area of Fort McMurray, right up to 2000. Garry returned to his homeland reserve in the early 80’s seeking employment in the Slave Lake area where he gained many years of experience both in the oil and gas and forestry industry while watching both the ups and the downs in the industry in northern Alberta. Garry obtained a Band Council Resolution (BCR) in 2008 that allowed him to research claims so that the Chief and Council can then study the results of the analysis, historical research, and to make informed decisions regarding the present and future direction of the Swan River First Nation. Garry is passionate about bringing both the true rights and the meanings of the spirit of the treaty. Garry enjoys researching and reading about indigenous history.
