Lawrence Willier, Director

Lawrence Willier is currently a board member of ICAA. He is a member of the Sucker Creek First Nation in Northern Alberta and currently resides in the lesser Slave Lake area. Lawrence speaks fluent Cree and is a father, grandfather and great grandfather. Lawrence was one of the founding members of the Native Council of Canada (Alberta), a non-status organization in 1985, and was involved in the national body NCC, now CAPP. Lawrence also spoke in the House of Commons in 1985 to get our First Nation treaty rights back under Bill C31. He was involved in the Metis Association of Alberta and President of Local 147. Lawrence was also a Northern board member of Indian Association of Alberta and a board member of ANCS, now Windspeaker (Alberta Native Communication Society), and negotiated the airwaves for ANCS. Lawrence likes to hunt, fish and trap and is a lifelong learner involved with all political levels, including aboriginal, federal, provincial and municipal.
